Hello folks,

Javed, mentionned the idea of organizing a geocaching party. Geocaching is
a game where people have to find geocaches that are associated with a set
of coordinates. I love this idea a lot.

For more info and see where the caches are see the links below :
http://www.geocaching.com/guide/default.aspx
http://www.geocaching.com/map/?ll=45.38918,-75.65076#?ll=45.50635,-75.82712&z=13

The goal is  to organise a fun get together. Javed and I were originally
thinking we would make that happen in Gatineau Hills. There would also be a
possibility to chill out afterwards.

There used to be a Geocaching group on http://www.meetup.com,/but not any
more. So what I am thinking is the following :

  - If we have few people, we do one group, and that group go after the
  same geocache.
  - If we have a lot, we can do team on different geocaches, and try to
see which team is the fastest
  - Eventually, we can take some time for a beer / coffee together at the
  end.

In terms of organization, this is how I see things :

  - The geocaching party must fit into a morning. We all have things to do
  during the week-end.
  - People should be able to bring their folks / friends.
  - This should be advertised on meetup well in advance and on our wiki
  page.
  - People need to let me know in advance what their feeling is like
towards that. I don't want to spend time organizing that if it is of
  interest to no one.

So, where do we start ;)? I suggest you first let me know what you think
about this idea.

  - Are you open to that concept.
  - Would you rather see that replace the monthly meeting the month it
  happens? (That is definitely doable)

Remember, I really need your feedback to make that happen, so share your
ideas, pros, and cons as soon as possible.

Cheers,

Cheers,

I did an introduction to Geocaching once on the Ottawa Geek Social Club
meetup.

Had about 7 or 8 people.  Best way to get computer geeks outdoors :-)

Hell Julien,

Thanks for the feedback. That are actually some things I would be really
interested in :

  - Where did you do that?
  - What was the time format?
  - What aspect did people enjoy the most?
  - What do you think could have been improved

Would you be interested in being part of that party? We were thinking about
doing that in June.

Cheers,

*Fabien*

Arround old Ottawa South.  Started on bank and made our way to Bronson,
finding caches allong the way.

> What was the time format?

A few hours. Sorry I don't remember more precisely.  It started at 10.
http://www.meetup.com/ottawa-geek-social-club/events/30552381/

> What aspect did people enjoy the most?

The location was accessible to non-car owners.  Good gender ratio, nice
weather, starting at the Caf? allowed people to chit chat.

> What do you think could have been improved

There had been some confusion arround the meeting spot.  I had mixed up
Bridgeheads franchises.

> Would you be interested in being part of that party? We were thinking

I can't say that I would be super inclined but if time and date fits with
schedule I would go.  First two weekends of June are already booked.
