 Well, I don't know if it really is unused. It just has no links in
 dOxygen. I don't know if that means it is totally unused.

 I think you can blindly do the same thing there. It really seems to have
 the same problem.

 Can it be that this function is called when creating the spatial index. I
 mean pointed at from sql and referenced by postgresql?
 Then it wouldn't show in doxygen.
