 Oops, the build error was a real one. Robe: please try r9902.
 This is the problem of having different code for different systems.. oh
 well.

 Maybe I could really change this again to _always_ call a function and use
 the function return code as a sign of whether or not to interrupt. Slower
 but would be about the same for both windows and unix. Haven't heard from
 Mac testers, btw.
