Comment:

 It was the cleanup routine -- it was hard-coded to only remove the 0-5
 images (I had 7 layers evidentally)

 fixed at r10300

 It's kind of an ugly hack, but I'm not brave enough to do anything more
 invasive right now with my limited knowledge of C and Unix stuff.
