[postgis-devel] PostGIS 2.4.0 Beta 1 this weekend

Paul,

Yes it is more important. A lot of folks are already running PostGIS 2.4 develop. It's unfair to wait for them. A few of those blockers can even be fixed in 2.4.1 micro.

And since you are going to be gone for another 6 days – you can't even do the make PostGIS 2.3 work on PostgreSQL 10 like you promised.

So that leaves a lot of angry people, can't run 2.3 in PostgreSQL 10 and can't run 2.4 comfortably because it's not out yet.

I looked at the things we marked as blockers and they've been like that for years so waiting another year on those is not going to kill us.

Thanks,

Regina

Well, I still fail to see the all-fired urgency, and I did pick up a number of things that we *did* actually *want* fixed prior to release.

And, I'm up at the beach, enjoying my family for another 6 days. So there ya go. Starting after Labour Day means just that.

If getting a release if more important than closing out the quite large block of tickets under my name, then by all means, bull on ahead :)

ATB,

P

That was partly to see if you were awake :)

It's been 10 days since sprint and you've committed nothing and did not respond to my notes on the tickets so I assumed you were still off in la la la land.

The hurry is PostgreSQL 10 is going to come out with the RC a little after labor day. After that they plan to release one week after.

If we want most folks running PostGIS 2.4 at PostgreSQL 10 we need to release first or very close.

We haven't even hit beta yet. And we need at least one week beta and one week RC. So that's the rush.

If you can honestly get some of the stuff we talked about done in a week's time, I can wait till after labor day, and you can push them back to 2.4 but if not, I'd just assume you wait till PostGIS 2.5 than us miss 2 years worth of work having to wait another year and having to patch up PostGIS 2.4 to work with PostgreSQL 11 (which it already doesn't).

Thanks,

Regina

Uh, I have an issue :) I have a pile of tickets that I deliberately took on, on the understanding that I'd work them out over the two weeks following labour day, and that they'd go into 2.4. What's the big hurry here?

I think most everything that needs to be done has been done, and everything
else I pushed to PostGIS 2.5.0 as they didn't seem that important to hold
up a release.

If anyone has issue with a beta release this week speak now.

Thanks,
Regina
