Please help us understand your point of view. Why do you want to keep 
the C++ API?

I like Sandros proposal to disable the C++ API by default and provide a 
configure option to (re-)enable it combined with the header to state 
that the developer has considered the downsides of using the C++ API.

It seems to address you concerns too, it doesn't take away your toy, it 
just raises the barrier to using it because its a toy that can easily be 
used to hurt others.
