I've left you a comment in the PR. With that change on top of yours
I've gotten it working and passing tests.

It doesn't make sense for Postgis to support unmaintained
dependencies. That being said, I think we should aim to support at
least 2 stable releases (2.2 and 2.3 now, 2.3 and 2.4 once 2.4 is
out).
