[postgis-devel] statically linked liblwgeom, why ?

I noticed a commit introducing statically linked liblwgeom
_and_ statically linking liblwgeom into the loaders too.

Now this will mean including a copy of liblwgeom+geos+proj+what else?
into each of our build artifacts:

  postgis.so          - postgres module
  rtpostgis.so        - postgres module
  postgis_topology.so - postgres module
  sfcgal.so           - postgres module
  shp2pgsql
  raster2pgsql
  (anything else?)

What's the rationale for such change ? Did I miss an RFC and a vote ?
