Stable sounds as good as any though I'm open to other naming conventions as long as we have one for stable branches.

I�d like to move that we use a common convention for all stable branches in our fancy new repo, since our trunk is now master:

stable-x.y

I think that captures the version, the intent (not a snap shot, but neither a place for experimentation), and the common prefix will put them all together in listings.
