 I cant get no valgrind reported error with your test. Crystal clear.
 Only ERROR:  Bad format, degrees (DD.DDD) must be included.
 And the postgresql always present write(buf) to uninitialize bytes at
 startup.
 This is with postgresql 9.2.1, on a 64bit host -- what version are you
 running ?
