 Opening this ticket to not to loose the task in the ml abyss and forget
 about it, in case documentation update is planned.

 devel/2013-December/024017.html Clarifying support of standards and specs]
 which received [http://lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/postgis-
 devel/2013-December/024018.html Paul's confirmation]:

 > The docs are just really old and haven’t be substantially touched in
 this area for ages, certainly not much since 2.0 when the wkb/wkt code got
 entirely replaced. So what you’re seeing is a need for a rewrite.
