 Two questions to mind?

 1) Have you done any speed tests at all between the two?
 2) Does the code make any assumptions about spatial projection?  One of
 the changes made in 2.1 was support for any spheroidal projection (which
 though I haven't tested) would allow supporting work on Mars or for gaming
 environments that have a spheroidal model but not an earthly one.  I
 wouldn't want to lose that feature.
