 There's another tree implementation in lwgeom_geos_cluster.c, simply
 wrapping the GEOS STRTree class. In case we want to implement something
 like that internally. Or GEOS C-API does have a GEOSDistance function if
 we want to try that.

 About avoiding the sqrt, the geometries could be shifted to the origin to
 lower the numbers
