 Danny I'm assuming you are still troubleshooting this issue.
 We're planning to release a tagged 2.4.0 alpha end of this week.
 If you don't think you'll have this sorted out by then, what I could do is
 commit this as is now with the plan we'll have these issues sorted out
 before September when we need to do final release to catch the PostgreSQL
 10 train.

 If you think issue is more involved, then we could wait till 2.5 or  I
 guess worsed case if we put it in now we can stub it with a geometry
 wrapper and have enhanced in PostGIS 2.4.1 since the SQL signature would
 not require changing.
