 This is the only change to the function in the timeframe
 (https://github.com/postgis/postgis/commit/5105ad46b3614d09b6c96430bb660a4c77b7e33b)
 and reversing it didn't make any difference, so the problem must be a
 change in behaviour in one of the functions called lower down.
