 I used this patch on another project now and the result was accepted as
 good with no errors, when checked by the users who should use the result.

 I have done some more checking and as far I can see this patch makes the
 method more robust and does not seem to have any big problem side effects.

 Maybe this patch could be added to Postgis 3.1 ?
