Comment:

 I'm going to close this out as DONE.
 The gitlab-ci bot is building out-of-tree while keeping the source tree
 READ-ONLY.

 Some build targets are still failing but none of them is performed by a
 bot.
 Please file separate tickets as you see such cases. I've started with
 #5067
