 So, if I understand you correctly, spatial relationships cannot be handled
 properly for all objects using simple features. For cases like this, we
 need to use topology.
 What initially caused this issue was that I failed to include all data
 from the input layers after the data was gridded. To capture all the data,
 I had to extend the bounding box when reading the simple feature input
 data.
