From what I understand, you do not need to recompile postgresql from source,
but youdo need to have the source code available in order to build postgis.
Should be doable for you!

  Hi,

Is it possible to install PostGIS over working PostgreSQL installation
with Suse 8.0? Or do i have to compile postgresql form the source code then
compile postgis form the source code as indicated at installation text? Is
there any way to make it run over already installed system? If there is how?

  Thanks..
