You built GEOS with the LDFLAGS=-lstdc++

So, based on my experiences, solaris 8/9 installs are a problem.
  I might be able to donate an old Sun 10 server to cause.

I assume you are using the compilers off the Sun Companion CD/Sunfreeware.com

I have not tried to do my own bootstrap build of GCC to see if that is the problem.
