This is why I installed the source RPM, as described in the original
message. A source RPM *is* a copy of the whole source tree of the
original package, plus all the patches needed for that distribution.
Isn't it enough?

See above. I thought that the source RPM was all that I needed, and in
fact when you "install" it it creates a src/contrib subdirectory. See
the paths I mentioned in the original message.
Or maybe I am completely missing something else?
