Transform works only if your data is localized and you know what you're
doing with respect to choosing a transformation. If your data is
geographically disperesed over the entire globe it's not a trivial
choice.

OK.  Then use transform() to convert degrees to meters... as I stated in

the last sentence of my original reply...  There's a lot of info and 
easy to miss... ;-)
