Subject: [postgis-users] Large geometry needs a lot of time to be inserted

  Dear all,

we have insertedd a very large geometry in a PostGIS database, and it has
needed an awful lot of time.

Particularly, the geometry is a multipolygon with 308986 points, and it has
needed 5803313 ms (over 90 minutes) in a modern computer (don't remember the
specs, but it is Pentium IV with 1 GB RAM).

Is this normal? Are we doing something wrong?

  Version information:

PostgreSQL 8.0.1 on i686-pc-mingw32, compiled by GCC gcc.exe (GCC) 3.4.2
  (mingw-special)
  "0.9 USE_GEOS=1 USE_PROJ=1 USE_STATS=1"

Thank you very much in advance. Best regards,
    Miguel
