Doug is right about what he spoke in his mai!

Like you, I've already Debian AMD64 with PostgreSQL , PostGIS, Geos and Proj
and I usually compil my tools from sources as Doug does.

Info for urls' tools:

proj:

postgresql 8.0.3:
