I'm using 64bit postgres/postgis on Suse 9.3 64 on AMD64 & informally it is a
good 10% - 15% faster than all 32bit on the same hardware. Some work on other
apps with Suse 10.1 on another A64 box suggests that building it with gcc 4
instead of 3.x will also be faster.
