[postgis-users] PostGIS ver. 1.0+ to be supported in ESRI ArcGIS9.2

For those interested in this message a few points.
First the extension is $2500. Not exactly pocket change.
Second there is a program called pgarc on sourceforge that allows access
to PostGIS from ArcMap. It was created by Nicolas Ribot. I have taken
the code and have it running on ArcMap 9.1 as a read-only SDE type
interface. I also added the ability to load only the features in the
display extent, and define the ESRI projection from the PostGIS srid.
It can also handle a different projection in the display than the
database. It only works to read data from the database - I didn't want
the write functions so I didn't do anything to those. Nicolas has
graciously asked if I would like to post my changes to the sourceforge
site but I am not sure how to do that and I don't know how to build and
installation extension. If anyone is interested and can help with the
posting let me know. Otherwise the code is available but it is
owned(copyrighted?) by Nicolas.
Thanks!
Bruce Rindahl

Subject: [postgis-users] PostGIS ver. 1.0+ to be supported in ESRI
ArcGIS9.2

For those of us trying to integrate PostGIS into ESRI software, it looks

like support will be there in ArcGIS 9.2. For details, see the message i

got regarding the Data Interoperability extension:

Tom,

I spoke to the Data Interoperability extension product specialist
regarding
your incident and they were in contact with Safe Software. Safe Software
did
not provide support for PostGIS 1.x for FME 2006, but it is to be
included with
ESRI Data Interop 9.2.

Data Interop 9.1 was based on FME 2004 ICE^3, which also supported up to

PostGIS 0.9.x.

Please let me know if you have additional questions related to this
issue. I am
closing incident #480388 pending further contact from you.

Regards,
Denise K.
