[postgis-users] Who is Using PostGIS? For What?

Hi all, in repsonse to Paul's inquiry:

Arjen Vrielink, working for SarVision, Wageningen, The Netherlands. A Remote Sensing company specialised in developing tropical forest monitoring systems.  

> What are you using PostGIS for?
I do change detection on 35 daily radar images of tropical forests. The results of the change detection are raw polygons which I load into PostGIS to clean the layers and do some postprocessing with landuse and hotspot data. Results can be seen here:

> Why did you choose PostGIS?
1. Because it runs on Linux and thus easily scriptable

> What makes you happy about your PostGIS installation?
1. It's robust
2. It's free
3. Active user community
4. For open source software it is quite well documented

> What makes you unhappy about your PostGIS installation?
some functions are rather slow compared to e.g. ArcGIS
