[postgis-users] best srid for spatial analysis across US

Hi all,

I am still trying to figure out how I should transform data to do  
spatial queries for area2d.  right now my data is in NAD 27.  I need  
to do calculations that involve finding the area of intersections of  
polygons from different tables.  What SRID would be the best to use  
for using the the area2d function?

Also, what is the best way to do the transformation?
