[postgis-users] Is the Earth round??

Hello,
How does postGIS handle polygons that cross the International Date Line?

I defined a polygon with POLYGON((177 72, -179 72, 174 66, 173 65, 171
65, 171 66, 177 72))
The polygon is considered invalid because 180 is not connected to -180.

Is the earth round in postGIS??
