The unit of measurement is in the units of your spatial reference system
defined by your SRID. So lets say your spatial ref is in NAD 83 meters,
then your area would be in square meters.

Subject: [postgis-users] Area()

Hi,

What unit of measurement is returned if I run a 'select Area(the_geom)
from ... where ..." on a spatial table?

For example, I just computed the area of a neighborhood in san francisco
based on its polygon, the result I got is: 4801031.97921228.
