thank you, Greg, yes I meant to Analyze, not Vacuum..

SO.. it turns out that about half of my metros cause this topology 
execption, and the other half dont ? Also, 10 seconds is at the low end 
for the times... 20,30 seconds happens all the time, with or without an 
index on metro. The last one I tried before writing took just over 60 
seconds..

lastly, the SetSRID() is only necessary on the MULTIPOLYGONS, the 
POINTS will work without it

Is this all that uncommon, or hard, or buggy
???
