1) I am an independant student who in trying to prepare for sociological
changes due to globalization is becoming proficient in mapping. I have read
manuals for Postgis, PROJ4, Mapserver, and the associated softwares and
languages, and so I subscribe to the associated mail lists.
2) Because I am in the preliminary planning stages of my projects my
download stats are minimal. That PostGIS and some of the other projects are
open source is very helpful in allowing me to continue. But I also believe
PostGIS is one of the most useful technologies to build upon.
3) Of course I will buy the book. There is a need for understanding by
people like myself. A well written book can supply meanings and
understandings in ways that manuals and email lists do not. Books supply
overviews, points of view, and structure - but factual detail illustrated by
example, and details of importance as well. I look forward to the day I
have it in my hands.
