It's not the cloud. It might be worth checking these folks out:

I haven't used them; I am in the process of making the same transition that
you are. Even though they are more expensive, these folks are in the top 5
on my list because they know GIS and seem to know how geography is a bit
different (for now, I guess) than other data types.
