When I'm getting Postgres from the OS vendor, I want to
get add-ons from the OS vendor as well - since I assume they
tested those exact combinations reasonably extensively - including
any tweaks they may have made to the upstream installs.
When I want to install the latest postgis from source, it's really
no additional burden for me to install postgres from source at
the same time.
Have there been any requests from the OS packagers/vendors
wanting to combine PostGIS2.0 with PostgreSQL8.3? If not,
I really can't imagine many people users running that combination.
