That assertion was fixed in GEOS 3.3.7 (ticket #605).
The latest stable GEOS release in the 3.3 branch is 3.3.8.
The latest stable is 3.4.2 (backward compatible).

The latest _postgis_ release in the 2.0 branch is 2.0.3.

For a conservative upgrade I'd recommend going to
PostGIS-2.0.3 / GEOS-3.3.8

If you feel brave you could go to:
PostGIS-2.1.1 / GEOS-3.4.2
