[postgis-users] using postgis for bathymetry data

How far off do they differ?  Could be an issue of units I suppose.

 

If you can give an example of one in ArcGIS vs. PostGIS that would help a
bit.

If you can also provide a sample to data you are working with that would
help and your resulting query in PostGIS.

I have xyz bathymetry data from a port which I'm trying to calculate the
volume of regions for. My results in ArcGIS always seem to differ from that
in PostGIS - I have no idea which is more accurate or how each calculates
its final result. I've loaded the exact same raster into postgis and use the
intersect query to extract the required polygon of interest, before
extruding it and then taking the volume. I'm quite new at this, so I'm
afraid I'm going the wrong way about it
