[PROJ] Get PROJ description in PROJ 5?

In PROJ 4, I could get a description of a projection using pj_get_def.

In PROJ 6, I can use proj_as_proj_string.

However, proj_as_proj_string doesn't exist in PROJ 5? How can I get the 
description of a PROJ in PROJ 5?

proj_pj_info does not seem to work (the definition I get back is empty, 
at least in PROJ 6; does this function behave differently in PROJ 5?).
