I don't know why this happens. We don't use foootnotes within the 1.8
manual, because they are not supported for pdf. I will try to find out and
hopefully some others have an idea, too. The server uses the same sphinx
version 1.1.3 and there this error also occurs, so the italian translation
doesn't build.
Apart from that, in the logfile I found many more errors and warning that
you could try to solve, please. I think the description is pretty clear.
Below you see the .po file with its line and the error that exists. Often it
is just a problem of adding or removing line breaks \n in your
translation. You can see them with a normal text editor ...
btw: those errors and warnings appear in almost every language and should be
solved by the translators.
