Dear QGIS-community,
As part of an ongoing 4th semester module, we are currently working on:
Lynx habitat analysis in the South-West of Romania
An example case study to promote basic understanding of wildlife habitat modeling for undergraduate students based on open source data.
Challenged with the task to approach the subject of modeling for the first time, an initial research for habitat suitability and behavior of the Eurasian Lynx (Lynx lynx) was conducted by a small working group of undergraduate students of the University for Sustainable Development (both international and German forestry study program), as well as one exchange student from Finland. We quickly had to discover the complexity of the subject, especially in regards to the species adaptability to changing environments. Although only limited research has been published on Romanian side (as well as in Europe) so far, we decided to continue the project based on freely available data sets only. Our aim is to establish conceptual knowledge and strengthen skills on widely applied GRASS tools, which we would like to contribute and share now with the QGIS community.
Please let us know if you are interested in our project report and if you have any further requirements aside the ones stated on the website.
Best wishes,
David
