[Qgis-developer] 0.8; here I go

Cheers,

With Radim's help I have current 0.8 head up and running on Ubuntu
Breezy/GNOME.

First impression: neat, nice and slick. Woopie!

First bugs:

1.
At the _very_first_ run only, opening a project (File, Open project)
brings a file selector saying it's in my $HOME, but the folder is
entirely empty (the attached screendump). Going a DIR up and back and my
$HOME contents are displayed

2.
Settings, Project properties, Projection:

SRIDSs 172-175 (EPSG 2170-2174) declare "+proj=stere", while it should
be "sterea". Eg.:

QGIS SRSID: 175
PostGIS SRID: 2174
+proj=stere +lat_0=51.67083333333333 +lon_0=16.67222222222222
+k=0.999800 +x_0=3703000 +y_0=5627000 +ellps=krass
+towgs84=33.4,-146.6,-76.3,-0.359,-0.053,0.844,-0.84 +units=m +no_defs

See how using GDAL 1.3.1 CVS 2006-02-10 I get:

$ epsg_tr.py -proj4 2174
# Pulkovo 1942(58) / Poland zone IV
<2174> +proj=sterea +lat_0=51.67083333333333 +lon_0=16.67222222222222
+k=0.999800 +x_0=3703000 +y_0=5627000 +ellps=krass
+towgs84=33.4,-146.6,-76.3,-0.359,-0.053,0.844,-0.84 +units=m +no_defs
<>

And GDAL is right. In European countries sterea is a better match
for OBLIQUE STEREOGRAPHIC than stere. stere is good America, and if
used for eg. Polish or Dutch grids will yield an error - the bigger the
further from central point. Until not long ago GDAL was also using
stere in error, but this issue was fixed by Frank Warmerdam, as you can
see from the epsg_tr.py output above. QGIS should follow.

For details see 2005 PROJ.4 and GDAL mailing lists archives.
