[Qgis-developer] ECW library location for OSGEO4W

Hi,

Is there any reason why I have to copy the ECW libs (NCScnet.dll, NCSEcw.dll, NCSEcwC.dll, NCSUtil.dll) into the qgis app directory (%OSGEO4W_ROOT%"\apps\qgis\bin) to get ECW support? When I place the libs into the %OSGEO4W_ROOT%\bin directory, ECW support for gdal 1.5 and 1.6 works fine, but qgis does not register the format.

I'm getting the same results on QGIS version 1.02, 1.1 and1.2 (trunk), on an up to date installation of OSGeo4W. My OS is WinXP SP2.
