Thanks Jürgen.
My situation is quite similar:
+++-=======================-=======================-==============================================================
ii libqt4-core 4.5.1-2 transitional package for Qt 4 core non-GUI runtime libraries
ii libqt4-gui 4.5.1-2 transitional package for Qt 4 GUI runtime libraries
ii libqwt5-qt4 5.2.0-1 Qt4 widgets library for technical applications (runtime)
ii python-qgis 1.2.0 Python bindings to Quantum GIS
ii python-qgis-common 1.2.0 Python bindings to Quantum GIS - architecture-independent file
ii  python-qt4              4.5.1-1                 Python bindings for Qt4
ii python-qwt5-qt4 5.1.1~cvs20090626+dfsg-2 Python version of the Qwt5 technical widget library
ii qgis 1.2.0 Geographic Information System (GIS)

However, the problem may lie deeper than this, because also purging all qwt5 related stuff does not help.
Thanks again.
