This has been fxed yesterday.

Soon I'd like to put the labeling plugin into core and integrate the
settings within vector layer properties dialog, so it will get the
"apply" button there.

Actually this is possible only in unique value symbology.
Is this necessary in symbology-ng? You can set the symbol properties
before doing the classification.

This feature will have to wait for some time :-)
