[Qgis-developer] qgis api shape file attribute deletion

Dear List,

I would like to use qgis api to manage the attributes of shape-files.  
Adding attributes to shapefile is working correctly.
But when I try to delete an attribute from the attribute table, it  
doesn't do anything.
I looked up the vectordataprovider, and it seems the feature is not  
implemented, am I right?
My provider has no capability to delete attributes...

Is there any other way to make the attrib deletion?
