Agreed. How about:
- setting a new 1.6 tag
- moving all the tickets that obviously cannot be fixed soon to that tag (I
can do that)
- leaving the remaining tags to all main devs, who can choose autonomously
to either fix them or move them to 1.6
This way, no bugs will be left unnoticed, and we'll have a best compromise
between stability and frequency of release.

Marco: I agree, very frequent releases would be better, IMHO, provided that
the cost of the process is not too high. I always use the -dev version,
also for courses, and it is generally well accepted. This means to me taht
we are almost ready to release at about any point in time.
