[Qgis-developer] GDAL Raster Merge

I have used the QGIS 1.7.0 / GDAL 1.7.3 raster merge tool to join a number
of Os OpenData GeoTiff maps.

 

There are two issues with this:

 

1.       The file size of the merged GeoTiff is over 10x the size of the
combined originals;

2.       The merged map is in greyscale only, and needs to be in colour.

 

Does anyone know if I am doing something obviously wrong here?
