Hi Andreas,
I proposed significant additions to the Rule based Renderer in a patch here:
http://trac.osgeo.org/qgis/ticket/3222
http://trac.osgeo.org/qgis/attachment/ticket/3222/rule_renderer_patch_on_r15004-symbols_not_merged.diff
Applying this patch would solve several issues, including one you mentioned: "Needs alias columns for the legend".
I just tried to write this on http://www.qgis.org/wiki/ but when I try to create an account, I receive the answer:
"You do not have permission to create this user account, for the following reason:
The action you have requested is limited to users in the group: Administrators."
I also have several comments and ideas for the Rule based Renderer, based on tests to create multiscale world map with OSM data.
All the best,
Mayeul

Objet: [Qgis-developer] Wiki page: switching from old to new symbology, missing bits
Hi,
As Paolo suggested, I started a wiki page for problems/missing bits in
the new symbology. Please add your issues, so we can get a rather
complete view of what is still missing.
http://www.qgis.org/wiki/Switching_from_Old_to_New_Symbology_and_Labeling
This is just a start. I will add more issues in the next couple days.
Thanks for your help!
Andreas
