Nathan, if I understand correctly, your mockup is for labelling, but you
say we could use exactly the same kind for symbology ?. If so, I proposed
in my previous post the "Data defined settings" tab for symbology, which
will list all the properties wich can be configured this way.
The icon idea is a good one too, and could make the "Data defined settings"
useless if all the settings can use it.It will require more efforts as you
will have to change the ui so that each control can be turned off and on
again depending of the database icon state, but this will be a great
enhancement. No more 2 different dialogs to set the same property
