[Qgis-developer] QGIS does not open Shape

Hi,

I have a Shape file which only can be opened by starting QGIS (1.8.0 on
ubuntu 12.04) and adding it as a vectorlayer. The opening fails when
trying to use "open with QGIS" from the context menu. The error message
in OGR protocol is "Datenquelle ungültig" and seems to come from 
QgsVectorLayer("test.shp","vector", "ogr") and may be fails with ERROR
10: Pointer 'hDS' is NULL in 'OGR_DS_Destroy'.

What could be the reason for that?
