>From what I gather from the changelog for doxygen [0], the new HTML look,
and javascript search engine were included in versions 1.6.0 and 1.7.0,
respectively. So, as far as what the user sees on the API site, there may
not be much reason to use the latest. One of the Ubuntu packages (>= 1.7.x)
should give the API site a facelift, if it's not too much of a hassle to
use on the Debian server.

I just thought it might be nice to have a fresh look (and quicker search
tool) for the API site, to coincide with the release of QGIS 1.8. Also, it
would mostly match the API docs, as generated and packaged for Ubuntu (QGIS
nightly repository).
